According to the 1993 SPC Interpretation , a tort involving defamation shall have at least four components: the reputation of the victim has been damaged; the conduct of the offender is illegal; there is a causal relationship between the conduct of the offender and the damage to the victim; and the offender is subjectively at fault. The following sections will examine how these four adjusted elements have been applied to online defamation, and what additional adjustments have been made to solve special problems created by the Internet.
